Textamerica is a site dedicated to mobile blogging. Of course, the integration tech is what drew me to take a peek. I happen to love hooking things up, sometimes just for the sake seeing things work together. Hooking up the cellphone in your hand, to a cell tower, to the internet, to your blog, and automatically posting photos sounds super fancy to me. If there’s a point, then all the better.

Textamerica lets you post pictures directly from your cameraphone to your own personal blog. In theory this sounds really great, as you can capture snippets of life as they unfurl throughout the day. Yesterday, Textamerica rolled out TA Live; a realtime view of all blogging on their site. You get to see images flowing in as they arrive.

Theory is wonderful, but in reality, I think this site is an example of doing something because it can be done, not because it should be done. Spending a couple minutes looking at TA Live, and reviewing the “moblogs” of the management team absolutely bored me to tears. It’s not that the management seem like uninteresting people, it’s more that their blogs are like watching paint dry a rash spread on your arm: boring, annoying, yet mostly non-life-threatening. The fault lies in the lack of direction and unintended fragmentation of a personal blog. I want my friends/family to go to one place to see all my dumb posts, photos and anything else. I don’t want to send anyone hither for my moblog, or over there for my photos. Build a service that integrates with all the major blogging tools and I’m in.
I’m no less guilty of inducing yawns than the next blogger, but I think I will henceforth stay away from the “here’s the gorilla booger I ate for lunch” tip. You can thank me later.
