more wooster hotness
Published by ken March 29th, 2006I guess I’m more of a fan of street art than I thought… Wooster Collective is covering the… covering of street art in Melbourne, Australia. Due to the nearing Olympic games, the city has taken to painting over years of graffiti. This doesn’t sound out of the ordinary at all as the cycle of graffiti, city cleanup is well known and chronicled here in NYC. Tags go up, tags get covered up. Repeat. However, in Melbourne, what gets thrown up can be slightly different. It may be due to my lack of exposure, but we don’t see street art like this in NYC:
…and even though we get more than our fair share of anti-Bush sentiment in our neighborhood, I haven’t seen anything as, dare I say, interactive, as this:
Irreverent, fun, and just a nice way to learn a little more about your world.
…the skewed human touch that can bring a little sparkle into the drudgery of public space. A feat that is of immense value, despite its apparent worthlessness
